Desert Stars Awards

Desert Theatre League gives the Coachella Valley its own version of the Oscars – the annual Desert Stars Awards pageant.

Each year, DTL judges attend many productions to assess original writing, direction, acting, dancing, singing, sets, make-up, costumes – you name it. But remember…

...It’s up to each producer and/or director to notify DTL when it wants a production judged. A production MUST give Desert Theatre League’s Judging Coordinator at least three weeks’ notice. It takes that much time to find and organize five trained DTL judges for each show.

Steps to getting a production judged:

1. Send a list of your season to DTL Judging Coordinator Barbara Johnson in August, by sending an e-mail to dtlbj@aol.com.

2. Three weeks before a production opens, contact the Judging Coordinator to request a specific production be judged. The Coordinator will send you the appropriate ballot (i.e., for drama, comedy, musical, etc.).

3. Complete the ballot, being sure that all names are spelled correctly. This is your chance to nominate those people in the production (actors, singers, crew, etc.) who you believe have performed in an outstanding way and deserve recognition. (And print legibly, please!)

4. The Judging Coordinator will provide a list of judge pin numbers and the dates they will attend the production.

5. When a judge arrives at your box office, provide him/her with two copies of the completed ballot, plus a stamped, addressed envelope (to DTL Judging Coordinator, 8731 Oakmount Blvd., Desert Hot Springs, CA 92240).

6. Contact the Judging Coordinator if you have ANY questions or concerns.
